PLANNED GIVING

Create a Charitable Legacy - The Power of Planned Giving

Imagine a community where every child has opportunities, families in need receive support, and arts and culture thrive — all because of your legacy.

A planned gift through the Broomfield Community Foundation makes this possible with our impactful nonprofit grantmaking and scholarship programs.

A planned gift through your will or trust is one of the simplest ways to ensure your values live on in Broomfield, and it will not affect your cash flow during your lifetime. By working with the Foundation, you can create a bequest for the future that supports the causes you care about most, or you can leave a gift that allows the Foundation to meet the community’s most critical needs over time.

John and Beth Bosio Join the Generations Fund

“We have been residents of Broomfield for over four decades, and the spirit of generosity and outreach in Broomfield is something we deeply value. John and I chose a planned gift to the Broomfield Community Foundation as the most straightforward and comprehensive way to ensure that our contributions to community activities and important needs will continue well into the future.”

BCF encourages all community members to consider leaving a gift to the Generations Fund. Making a bequest is one of the simplest and most impactful gifts you can make.

Benefits of Planned Giving

When you include the Broomfield Community Foundation in your estate plan, you can:

  • Reduce your estate taxes.
  • Provide for your family while supporting your community.
  • Create a legacy that reflects your values.

Common types of gifts

You can include the Broomfield Community Foundation in your estate plan through:

  • Your will or trust.
  • A beneficiary designation on your retirement account(s) or life insurance.
  • A charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust.

Participating in the Generations Fund is a straightforward, three-step process.

Step 1: Reach Out to Us

We encourage you to reach out to us before meeting with your legal or financial advisor to ensure your gift is aligned with both your charitable goals and our mission. We are here to guide you through the necessary steps for proper documentation and prepare you for a productive discussion with your advisor. Contact us at 303-469-7208 or info@broomfieldfoundation.org.

Step 2: Consult Your Advisors

With guidance from your legal and/or financial advisor, you can include language in your estate plan to support both your loved ones and the Foundation. As the beneficiary of your gift, the Foundation holds the legal and fiduciary responsibility to honor and carry out your wishes, whether directed to an existing Foundation Fund or a Special Purpose/Field of Interest Fund.

Share the following with your advisors for language to include in your bequest.

Foundation’s legal name for bequest: Broomfield Community Foundation, a Colorado public benefit corporation.

P.O. Box 2040 Broomfield, CO 80028 | Tax ID Number: 84-1246756

Step 3: Notify Us and Celebrate Your Legacy

Once your gift is finalized, share the details with us so we can appropriately acknowledge your generosity and include it in our records. When you establish a Generations Fund estate gift to the Broomfield Community Foundation, you become a part of the Generations Fund Circle (GFC), the Foundation’s group that honors those who have taken the extraordinary steps of including us in their estate plans. A team member will connect with you to explore your preferred level of involvement.

Sample bequest language can be found HERE.

Should you have any questions about planned giving, please contact BCF by phone 303.469.7208, or by e-mail at or info@broomfieldfoundation.org.

commonly transferred ASSETS

Two of the most significant assets of most Americans are typically transferred via beneficiary designations.

1) Qualified Retirement Plans

By naming Broomfield Community Foundation as the beneficiary of a qualified retirement plan, you not only accomplish your charitable goals but also retain complete control over the assets while living. This control ensures that at your passing, the remaining assets are passed to Broomfield Community Foundation free of both estate and income taxes, a decision you make with full autonomy.

Beneficiaries are typically named when the IRA or other qualified retirement plan account is first established. Changes to your beneficiaries are generally easily made and displayed through the process of the financial service company that manages your retirement plan (typically through their online portal).

2) Life Insurance

Gifting your life insurance policy is an excellent way to give to us. Like retirement plans, naming Broomfield Community Foundation as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy or your donor-advised fund is straightforward. Adjusting the beneficiary to your life insurance policy can easily be done via your company’s online portal. You’ll likely need to provide the Foundation's tax ID number, which is 84-1246756

Option A

If you have a life insurance policy that is no longer essential, you can donate it to us and take an immediate tax deduction. By donating the entire policy and designating the Foundation as the owner, the policy will transfer, and you will no longer need to pay the premiums.

Option B

Name the Foundation as a beneficiary, either in whole or for a specific percentage. The Foundation will receive the proceeds upon your death to ensure your charitable intentions are met. Adjusting the beneficiary to your life insurance policy can easily be made via your company’s online portal. You’ll likely need to provide the Foundation tax ID number, which is listed below.

We encourage you to let us know if you’ve included the Broomfield Community Foundation in your estate plans. Knowing your intentions allows us to coordinate with your insurance company or financial institution and ensure your gift creates the impact you envisioned.

Please let us know you have named us as the beneficiary so we can contact the insurance company or fund at the appropriate time and put your gift to work as you intend. Click HERE to inform us online if that's most convenient.
