BCF Extends a Public Apology
to the Griffin Family
At the Broomfield Community Foundation, we take great pride in celebrating student achievement with accuracy and care—but this time, we made a mistake.
A clerical error led to the announcement of a scholarship recipient who, while highly deserving, was not the original recipient selected for that specific award. As soon as we discovered the error, we took immediate steps to correct it. The originally selected student remains the official recipient of the named scholarship. To ensure no student is unfairly impacted, the Foundation will also fund an additional scholarship, separately and at no cost to the original fund.
We deeply regret the mix-up. This isn’t typical of us, and it’s certainly not the kind of surprise we aim to deliver. We're grateful for the grace and understanding shown by everyone involved. We are reviewing our systems and implementing new safeguards to prevent this from happening again.
To the students, families, and community: thank you for your patience and continued trust. We remain committed to learning from this experience, strengthening our processes, and ensuring that the focus stays where it belongs—on honoring the memory and intent of each scholarship's namesake, while also celebrating the very deserving students who receive these awards.
Sincerely,
Dion West, Executive Director
